No-Scalpel Vasectomy
Safe and Effective, permanent Sterilization for Men
A no-scalpel vasectomy is a minimally invasive technique that involves creating a single, small opening in the scrotum in order to access the vas deferens (vas). This technique has a lower complication rate than previous techniques, is less painful, and is the most effective form of permanent sterilization for men and women.
Why A Vasectomy Is often the Best option for most people:
Vasectomy is the most effective form of birth control and sterilization.
Failure rates have been shown as only ~0.15% at 1 yr; ~0.58% lifetime. This beats tubal ligation, tubal occlusion, IUDs and levonorgestrel implants.
It is also the safest form of permanent sterilization method overall.
Permanent sterilization techniques in women such as tubal occlusion and tubal ligation carry the risk of ectopic pregnancy and being a more invasive procedure, have a higher risk of complications following the surgery.
Vasectomy is the most cost-effective and efficient means for permanent sterilization
The cost for this procedure is under $1000. Compare this with permanent forms of sterilization for women, which can cost thousands of dollars, vasectomy is the most affordable means to prevent pregnancies.
No hormones or side effects
Unlike implanted hormones like Nexplanon which can cause change in menstrual bleeding pattern, headache, vaginitis, weight increase, acne, breast pain, and abdominal pain, vasectomy has no systemic effects.
Safety
As with any procedure, vasectomies do have some risks. The most common being:
Infection
Hematoma - a sometimes large (grapefruit-sized) collection of blood in the scrotum that forms due to bleeding after the procedure that can take months to resolve.
Post-vasectomy pain syndrome - A rare, but real complication. It is a persisting dull ache in the testicle that may persist for months or years after the procedure. Treatment sometimes involves another procedure.
Epididymitis - An infection of the epididymis.
Sperm granuloma - A nodule that can form after the vas is cut and blocked. It is sometimes tender.
